Scale-up Summit Oslo: Talent attraction

30th of september Epicenter hosted Scale-up Summit Oslo as part of this year’s Oslo Innovation week. We invited some inspiring and insightful speakers to share their knowledge on how companies can succeed with today’s major scale-up challenges.

Svein Sørensen is the CEO and co-founder of Talented Norge AS. He has been in recruitment for more than 20 years and has been a partner in several recruitment /headhunter agencies. He strives to change the way of attracting tech talents to the Nordics. Through this vision, TA AS established themselves as a solid Nordic entrepreneur in the business.

“It’s the most difficult topic in the world. I don’t believe we have the solution, but maybe some answers to attract good talents. If I had the solution I think I’d be quite rich, famous and happy” – says Sørensen.

Talent attraction: How do we get more talent to the region? And how do we keep them there?

Sørensen points out that when it comes to scaling-up, we have some challenges in the market, even though we are a small country with capital and well-educated people. In the future every company will evolve to be a tech company and reports are showing that there will be a huge lack of employees. The problem to scale-up our digital competence is not just a local phenomenon in Norway. This is a global problem, both in the EU and US.

“ We need to be better than the rest of the world, to achieve our goals to be a tech hub, and that’s our biggest challenge”.

The market is shifting and the talent race is now global. First of all, the salaries are higher abroad. This is where we see the market turn away. In Sørensens opinion we need to stop kidding ourselves that employer branding and equity is enough to make an organization attractive.

“ Start listening to the developers, and not assume what your company needs to grow. They have the right cards on their hands, they are the ones who play the game”.
