44% of AI systems exhibit bias against women*. As AI continues to advance, how do we ensure the inclusion of women and promote gender equality? Join us on this important day as we dissect the challenges and opportunities of AI in relation to gender equality – in conversation with UN Women Sweden’s Alexandra Pascalidou and Paulina Modlitba.
From the earliest days of computing to the present age of virtual reality and AI, there has been a lack of women and girls, both in form of representation and involvement. Today, there is a persistent gender gap in digitalization. This keeps women and girls from unlocking their full potential in technology. In addition, digital tools and AI are often gender biased, and on online platforms gender-based harassment, hate and violence against women and girls exists. At the same time, digital technology is opening new doors for the global empowerment of women and girls. From digital learning adjusted to women and girls, to tech-facilitated empowerment. The digital age represents an unprecedented opportunity to strengthen gender equality and counteract various forms of discrimination.
Looking ahead, the use of AI technologies will affect women’s opportunities for work, and their position, status and treatment in the workplace. In harnessing AI, we must narrow gender gaps rather than perpetuate or exacerbate them. How could AI be used in the future? What are the opportunities and challenges that AI presents for women and girls? Welcome to this important discussion – with Alexandra Pascalidou and Paulina Modlitba.
This event is hosted with our member UN Women Sweden.
