We are living in extraordinary times. The way we live, work and do business is being disrupted. Working from home has proven itself to be efficient. BUT – does that really mean that employees want to spend all of their working life at home?

We asked 200 of our members within our tech savvy business environment around the topic of the future of work. Now that a majority has an idea of the 100% in the office vs. the 100% from home arrangement – what do they actually prefer?

If you’re running a company thinking that everything should go back to the way it was post-COVID-19 – you might want to rethink a little. Looking at the responses, spending 8 hours a day, 5 days a week in a traditional workplace situation should now belong to your company’s history.
As much as 86% of the respondents in the Epicenter Member Study conducted in October 2020 stated that they want to work in a hybrid way! That means that employees today want a decent mix in their work space; working from home, the office, cafés, hotel lobbies, coworking spaces etc.
Pretty interesting, right?
The responses are quite clear – people don’t want to go back to having to be full-time at the office. However, that doesn’t mean they want to work exclusively from home either. In fact, as little as 1% said they wanted to work from home only. Finding the perfect balance between this new flexible way of working will become a challenge for many companies in the upcoming months.
For businesses this could mean new opportunities to becoming an even more attractive employer. On top of that, the hybrid working model has great potential for lowering fixed costs. Why is that you may think?
81% of the respondents think a physical office space improves collaboration within the company and the team. That being said, a physical space can be seen as crucial for seamless teamwork. Perhaps you should ask yourself: does this space have to be as big as it is today? What other solutions could my employees benefit from?
70% of the respondents think that coworking will grow. It’s possible that this is a result of the needs for small, as well as large businesses are changing.
If we’re doing a reality check here, does this go in line with what we see at Epicenter?

“The demand for flexible workspaces and coworking is increasing. But Epicenter has also gained a new customer group in the form of large companies with employees who work remotely or in a more hybrid manner.”
Reality shows that we have some really early adopters to this new trend answering the wishes of employees.

*The Epicenter Member survey was conducted between September 23rd to October 9th. In total we had 203 respondents from Epicenter Stockholm, Oslo and Helsinki. We had 30% respondents from each of the following business segments: startups, scaleups and corporates. The majority of the respondents were between 25-34 years of age (43%). The respondents were 65% male and 35% female.
